You Have a Song to Sing

There’s a song that wants to sing itself through us.  We’ve just got to be available.  Joanna Macy

“Sounds great”, you say, “but how do I actually become available to that song inside me that wants to sing itself?”

  • First, be still by sitting quietly.
  • Second, close your eyes and focus your attention inward.
  • Third, create mental space by bringing your attention to the present moment.
  • Forth, listen without expectations, not for the voice of the ego, but for the witness within you that is the writer, creator, and producer of your song. Listen for the song that is uniquely yours. Your song will come through your voice, your heart, your breath, and your talents. It is unlike any other song ever sung because it is unique to you.

Begin to hum it. Put words to it. Let it become your anthem. Your song is meant to be sung by you. It’s the singing of your song that will make you utterly unique and impossible for others to copy. Anything less than the fullest expression of your song would be a disservice to the world.

P.S. If you can’t hear your song, repeat steps 1-4.
